Saint Lucia is an island nation and monarchy in the Caribbean Sea that lies north of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and south of Martinique. The capital Castries is built around a fine natural harbor.

The island has a tropical climate tempered by trade winds. Rainy season lasts from May to August. Hurricanes and volcanic activity are common threats on the island.

There are several mountains here than in many of the other Caribbean islands. Mount Gimie is the highest peak, 950 m. The two Pitons are better known as a landmark and symbol of the island. They are located just outside of Soufriere on the west. Soufriere's also one of the few volcanoes in the world that it is possible to run into in.

Natural resources are rainforest, sandy beaches and pumice. Some specific species are parrot saint lucia Amazon and saintluciatrupial.
