Napier is an important port city which is located in Hawke's Bay on the East coast of the North Island of New Zealand. 10 km further south lies the Napiers "twin city" Hastings. In New Zealand will be the cities also just called "the twin cities". Napier is located about 320 kilometres north-east of the capital, Wellington. The city is located on Napier Hill and the surrounding Heretaunga plains in the South-eastern edge of Hawke Bay, a large semi-circular Bay that dominates the East coast of New Zealand's North Island.
Napier and the lands around Hastings is known for its production of wine. It is also one of the areas in New Zealand that have the greatest production of apples, pears and stone fruits such as peaches and nectarines. The fruit is exported from the port of Napier. Napier is a popular holiday resort, and has one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country; a statue on Marine Parade called " Pania of the Reef ", which are valued just as much as the statue of the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen. Napier has one of the most complete collections of art deco buildings in the world, and the buildings The T & G Building from 1936 and Breakers Cafe & Bar are among some of the finest buildings with best location directly at the Marine Parade. |
