Denmark is a country in Northern Europe. It is the southernmost of the Nordic countries, and is located to the southwest of Sweden and south of Norway.
Denmark has a land border to Germany, and also borders the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The population is approx. 5.5 million, and the capital is Copenhagen. Geographical Denmark consists of a large peninsula, Jutland, and a number of islands, where Zealand, Funen, Lolland, Falster and Bornholm are the most famous. The Kingdom of Denmark also includes the actual dependencies Denmark Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Denmark is a welfare state with a mixed economy. The standard of living in the country is high, and the community is characterized by small economic differences. Denmark is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system. The country is divided into five regions and 98 municipalities. Denmark has been a member of the United Nations and NATO since its founding and by the EU since 1973, but is not part of the euro zone. |
